Just For Fun in the YA Department
Each month, we will supply a week of “just for fun”activities in the YA department. Show up anytime during the third week of the month to participate.
January – Board games, crosswords and sudoku puzzles to challenge your brain and entertain your funny bone will be available on the YA work tables.
February – Guerilla positivity. Paper “conversation hearts”, markers and decorations will be provided. Create some positive feedback and surprise someone with it.
March – App reviews on “butcher paper”. What are you using on your phone? What do you like about it? What would you change? Would you recommend it to a friend?
April –Guess the book by the tweet! A new tweet will be posted every day in the YA department and on Twitter. Correctly guess which book we are describing and be entered into a drawing for a $5 ice cream coupon – Newport or Cold Stone Creamery – your choice.
May – Instructions and supplies for creating origami figures will be available in the YA department all week.
On-Line Fun
NoveList is your guide to fiction reading. Find book awards lists, author biographies, recommended reads, and books like the one you just finished and loved.
Video Hound’s Golden Movie Retriever reviews movies that are available on DVD or VHS. Each entry includes title, alternate title, one-to four-bone rating, year released, MPAA rating, brief review, length, format, country of origin, cast, technical personnel, awards and made-for-television/cable/video designations.
Freegal, available only to patrons of the Newport Public Library (your card had to be issued here), is a way to download music legally for FREE. The catch is, each patron is only allowed two titles each month. That is still a pretty good deal if you think about it so get your dancing, running, strutting or “whatever” shoes on and get moving to your own beat.
