How to Donate to the Bookstore

The bookstore accepts donations of books, CDs, DVDs, and magazines year-round.  Donations may be left at the bookstore, or contact the Library’s facilities management staff to make arrangements for larger donations.

Join the Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library are dedicated to raising funds in support of the mission of the library. Fundraising is done through the Friends Bookstore, special book sales, and on our eBay store.  Become a friend of your library today! Submit your donation along with this printable form.

How to Volunteer at the Bookstore

The Friends need volunteers to help staff the bookstore, sort and price books, help at special book sales and to work at other library fundraising events.  We could also use volunteers with computer skills.  Call 847-8720, Ext. 100 or email djames@newportlibraryri.org to sign up.

Bookstore History

The Friends Bookstore opened for the first time in 1991 by Josephine Carson, a retired librarian and long-time member of the Friends organization. She saw the need for more than the Annual Book Sale (held, at that time, in December), because of the quantity and quality of the gifts the Library was receiving.

friendslogoFor 10 years now, the Friends Bookstore has raised funds for the Friends of the Newport Public Library by selling used books, some discarded by the library, many donated by the public. Revenue from the bookstore is given, by the Friends, to the Library for the purchase of new books and to sponsor some library programs.
