Arrange a visit with the Children’s or Young Adult Departments
The Newport Public Library Children’s or Young Adult librarians will be happy to visit any Newport school. For younger children, we could provide a storytime for your class, with reading aloud, rhymes, songs and a craft project. We would also be happy to provide an oral storytelling performance, or talk to your class about great books for their grade level. For older children and teens, we will do a booktalk, show a Power Point presentation that explores easy-to-use online library resources available for teens, or talk about any of the special teen programs happening at the library.
Both Children’s and Young Adult librarians will be glad to speak to your class about research assignments, research skills or using library resources. We will assist teachers with planning research assignments. We can create a Homework Shelf in the library, that will contain books for your class on your topic, at the correct reading level. The Children’s librarians are also happy to link web pages to our Children’s web page, that are related to specific homework assignments.
We will also be glad to arrange to have your class come to the public library for a tour. To arrange for visits to your classroom, or any of the services mentioned above, please contact Children’s librarian, Cathy Antonio at 847-8720, Ext. 204 (email cantonio@newportlibraryri.org) or Young Adult Librarian, Becky Farwick at 847-8720, Ext. 206 (email bfarwick@newportlibraryri.org).
