Reading free library eBooks on your Kindle eReader (or any device with the Kindle App installed) is not only possible, it’s easy. Below you’ll find links to step-by-step instructions with screen shots, or just scroll down for the basics. Remember to Ask a Librarian if you get stuck.
You will need: a computer connected to the internet, and (of course) a Kindle or a device on which you’ve installed the Kindle Reading App (smart phone, iPad, etc.).
1. Sign in to your Amazon.com account on your computer. Click on Your Account and choose “Your Apps and Devices” under Digital Content.
2. Add your Kindle, or a device on which you’ve installed the Kindle Reading App. You will only need to do this once.
3. On the PC go to riezone.lib.overdrive.com. Find, add to cart, and check out a title for the Kindle. Click the “Get for Kindle” button.
4. This will send you to Amazon.com. Login in to Amazon, if you haven’t already. Click Your Account, then choose “Manage your Kindle” (currently, this is on the right hand side of the screen under Kindle Support).
5. The book you just checked out should appear at the top of the list, with the words “public library” next to it in orange. You should see a button on the right that says “Get the Book.” Make sure the device under “Send to…[your device]” is the correct one. Click “Get the Book.”
6. The next time your Kindle or Kindle app device connects to the internet, the library book should be delivered to your Kindle wirelessly. Enjoy!
