Part-time, temporary custodian

The Newport Public Library is seeking an individual for the temporary/part-time position of Custodian/Security Guard.  Under the direction of the Library Director and the Building Manager, the custodian/security guard is

  • responsible for maintaining discipline and good order in the library
  • assisting the Building Manager and Custodians with custodial duties
  • able to execute opening and closing procedures
  • capable of becoming familiar with the operation of the heating and cooling systems, burglar and fire alarm systems
  • able to interact  with the public and library staff in a positive manner.

Psycho Our series of classic Alfred Hitchcock films from the mid-1950’s and 60’s continues into the winter months!

Gilded Age Tea returns

Gilded Age Tea  Saturday, February 7th from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Please join us for a fabulous Gilded Age Tea, to benefit the Newport Public Library, at the Hotel Viking.

Tea includes wonderful sandwiches, pastries and a glass of champagne!

$28.00 per person;  reservations are required and may be made by calling the Viking Hotel at 401-848-4824.

Book Talk with Gloria Merchant

Gloria MerchantIn Pirates of Colonial Newport, Gloria Merchant delves into the fascinating history of Newport’s pirates from Thomas Tew and Captain Kidd’s buried treasure to the largest mass hanging of pirates in the colonies at Gravelly Point. Author Merchant will be discussing her book on Thursday, January 29 at 7:00pm. No registration is required.

 

 

 

Teen Movie – Miracle

MiracleSaturday – January 31 – 2:30pm – Program Room

Spend the afternoon enjoying pizza and a movie with your friends.   Make personalized, permanent coffee mug holders and watch  Miracle – the story of the 1980 Olympic  Hockey Team (all amateurs) defeating the Soviet Team (who had won 6 of the last 7 Olympic gold medals) and Team Finland to win the gold for the US.  It is considered by many Americans to be “the greatest moment in sports history”.

January – February Storytimes

StorytimesWith the new year comes new storytimes!  The groups for our January/February 5-week storytime session are:

  • Tiny Tots – birth to 14 months
  • Squigglers – 15 months through 2 years
  • After-Lunch Bunch – 2 to 4 years old
  • Step-Up Storytime – 3 & 4 years old
  • After-School Adventure – 5 to 7 years old
