Each week, from Sept. 9th – Dec. 21st, the Children’s Department will be celebrating a different geometric shape with window and book displays and an activity.
This early literacy initiative is designed to aid in the development of shape knowledge. Shape knowledge helps children identify and organize visual information, as well as learn skills that help them with reading, math, and science. This initiative further helps letter knowledge as children familiarize themselves with the shapes that make up the letters of the alphabet. The weekly activities also aim to promote the development of fine motor skills.
Visit the Children’s Desk each week and ask about the weekly shape activity and then continue talking about the shapes you see everyday!
