General Questions

1. Does the library have a scanner, copy machine or fax machine?
The library has two scanners, located across from the Reference Desk. This is a free service.

Photocopy machines print in black and white only, and do not make double-sided copies. Black and white copies are $.15 per page.  Machines accept one dollar bills and coins.

Faxing and color copies  are both available in the Administration Office (on the lower level of the library).  The Administration staff will be happy to fax items for you, or make color copies on Monday – Friday until 3:45 pm.  Faxes cost $1.00 per page;  color copies cost $.50 per page.

2. Does the library have a notary public?
Notary Public service is available at the reference desk. The cost is $1.00 per seal. Patrons who wish to take advantage of this service MUST call the library to check and see if the certified notary public staff member is present (847-8720 x208).

3. Can I recommend that the library purchase a specific book or DVD?
To recommend a title for purchase, speak to Reference staff or use our online Suggest a Purchase form. All suggestions for purchase are subject to the same selection criteria as other materials and are not automatically added to the collection.

4. May I use my cell phone in the library?
Cell phone use is allowed only in the library’s two lobbies.  Please set your cell phone to vibrate or silent mode when you enter the Library.  Texting is allowed anywhere.

Computer and Internet Access

1. Does the Library provide computers with Internet access?
Yes, the library provides computers with Internet access free of charge. An Ocean State Libraries library card number or a guest pass is required to log on to our computers.

2. Can I print at the Library? Is there a charge for printing?
Yes. The charge for black & white prints is $.15 cents per page and color prints are $.30 cents.

3. Is there a time limit for computer use/Internet access?
If the computers are very busy, and there are people waiting, there is a one-hour limit. If there is no one waiting, time limits are flexible for users who have an OSL library card.

4. May I use my laptop in the library? May I plug it in? Is there wi-fi access?
Yes, you may use your laptop in the library. There are many electrical outlets for use by the public throughout the library. The only restriction is that wires may not be stretched across aisle-ways. Our wi-fi network is called “library”, there is no password.
