2008 Teen Summer Reading Program

HOW TO METAMORPHOSE YOUR SUMMER

1. Find out what metamorphose means.

2. Register for the summer reading program at the Newport Public Library (NPL) either in person at the Young Adult (YA) or Reference desks or e-mail your name, address, phone number, e-mail address, school and grade to nptya@newportlibraryri.org.  Registration begins Monday, June 30 and continues through August 4.
   
   
3. Read at least 8 books between July 7 and August 8.
   
   
4. Complete a NPL Book Form for each book you read.  Forms are available from the YA or Reference desks at the Library or they can be downloaded.  Forms can be turned in at the YA or Reference desks or they can be e-mailed to nptya@newportlibraryri.org.



5. Attend activities to learn how to metamorphose your world and yourself.
   You must read at least one book per activity attended.  Your book form is your entry ticket.
   
   
6. Earn a spot at our end of the program pizza party by reading at least 8 books.

ACTIVITIES - How To Metamorphose Your World and Yourself

All programs take place in the Library's Program Room from 3:30 to 4:30 pm.
Craft supplies will be provided by the library.
Light refreshments will be available.
Join the fun and meet other teen readers.
You must read at least one book per activity attended. A completed book form is your entry ticket.

1. Thursday, July 10: Metamorphose origami papers into beautiful stars.
   
   
2. Thursday, July 17: Metamorphose old soda cans into expressive and decorative figures.
   
   
3. Thursday, July 24: Metamorphose yourself into a pop star using the library's new PlayStation2 Sing Star game. Or, watch the fun while others metamorphose themselves.
   
   
4. Thursday, July 31: Metamorphose plain duct tape into a wallet or purse. This is a transformation you'll use again and again.
   
   
5. Thursday, August 7: Using your own digital photos, metamorphose them into a new, personal statement. Bring photos with you on DVD or e-mail them to nptya@newportlibraryri.org by Wednesday, August 6.
   
   
6. Thursday, August 14: For all teens who have metamorphosed their summer into a reading extravaganza by reading at least 8 books, we'll have a Pizza Party and Grand Prize Drawing for an iPod Shuffle.

PRIZES

1. Grab Bag – for every book form turned in, you get one grab from our miscellaneous gift grab bag and a raffle coupon.
   
   
2. Dominos Pizza – raffle coupons are entered into weekly drawings for a gift certificate for one large Dominos Pizza.
   
   Additional raffle tickets can be earned by writing a one-page, or longer, book review of the book(s) you read.  Reviews may be posted on our webpage.
   
   
3. Pizza Party and iPod Shuffle – all teens who complete the program will be invited to the final pizza party.  Everyone who qualifies for the pizza party will be given a free book and entered into a raffle for an iPod shuffle.  Winner will be drawn at the end of the party. You do not have to be present to win.
