Nestled between the elegance of Bellevue Avenue and the colonial charm of Thames Street sits one of Newport's greatest assets - its public library.
The history of the Newport Public Library reveals several locations and challenging growing pains, but today it stands proud in a building completed in 2001. |
|
The library, which circulates close to one-quarter million items per year, with over 16,000 cardholders, remains a treasured resource and an integral part of the community.
The Newport Public Library is committed to serving the public with innovative and effective programming for toddlers to seniors. However, as a private organization whose annual budget cannot be met in full through the support from the City and State, the library must depend on the public's generosity to assure the high caliber of service as it provides life-long learning for the entire community. |
